While I love God, I also see the importance of separating church from state as perfectly wise. Legislating morality is a challenge for the pulpit. It is a pipe dream in politics, but dream we do, year after year hoping somehow to delay societal decline.
While watching an episode of the Mike Huckabee show, I listened to him speak on Jahi McMath, the young girl who had complications from a tonsillectomy and is now considered brain dead by doctors. Like Teri Schiavo before her, Jahi has reawakened the debate over what determines life and who gets to decide when to continue or discontinue artificial life support measure's.
Mike Huckabee declared what many people believe. The final decision regarding the life or death of this child should be in the hands of the parents. Oddly, this is the same verbiage chosen by those who believe abortion is a similar right that belongs to parents. Does this case strengthen their argument?
